What Are the Reasons for Refractory Brick Erosion?

Light-weight fireclay insulation bricks are subject to chemical and physical attack. The cause of physical erosion is caused by the high temperature of the furnace. If the temperature is too high, the refractory bricks will shrink or swell. When the quality of the refractory bricks does not match the furnace temperature, it will melt. There are also ovens that do not follow the heating curve, or if the time is too fast, the refractory bricks expand significantly and the service life is too short. In severe cases, the furnace body will be damaged.

Chemical attack is also divided into furnace gas attack and oxidative attack. Sometimes there is mutual erosion between refractory materials. Just like the mixing of basic refractory bricks and acid refractory materials, they will be electrochemically attacked by refractory bricks. Insulation bricks and tar combined bricks are also subject to mutual erosion by chapters. The reason is that the content of the harmful components responds, and the refractory bricks selected are not compatible with the gas field of the furnace lining. Acid gas field refractory bricks for alkaline gas fields, and acid gas field refractory bricks for alkaline gas field furnaces are all factors of erosion.

Porosity and porosity are too high, it is the easiest to let the erosion material penetrate the material, which will increase the contact area between the erosion material and the material. The porosity is low and the pore size is small, which can prevent the infiltration of erosion materials and enhance its chemical erosion performance. Gaseous or liquid erosive have a low viscosity, making them easy to penetrate inside the refractory bricks. If the erosive viscosity is large and the penetration is not significant, the erosive viscosity is related to the chemical composition and temperature.

The chemical resistance of refractory bricks decreases as the furnace continues to heat. The purpose of boiler cooling walls, such as boilers and blast furnaces, is to reduce the temperature and prevent the furnace lining refractory bricks from being damaged by erosion. The resistance to slag or solution scouring and erosion is the slag resistance of refractory bricks. Now many manufacturers continue to experiment with adding composite materials to resist the erosion resistance of refractory bricks. There is also the factor of mechanical stress damage, like heavy metal materials, the mechanical impact on the furnace bottom and the furnace wall is very large, which is the cause of the failure of the refractory bricks that cannot be ignored. The high temperature furnace dome is damaged due to the excessive pressing force, which causes the inside of the refractory brick to soften and deform.
