Light refractory brick is a kind of heat-resistant refractory material. It refers to refractory bricks with high porosity, low bulk density and low thermal conductivity. The characteristics of lightweight refractory bricks are porous structure (porosity is generally 40-85%) and high.

1. There are many classification methods for lightweight refractory bricks:

① According to the bulk density classification, light refractory bricks with a bulk density of 0.4-1.3 / cm3; ultra-light refractory bricks below 0.4 / cm3.

② According to the use temperature classification, the use temperature of 600-900 ℃ is low-temperature insulation refractory; 900-1200 ℃ is medium-temperature insulation refractory; those exceeding 1200 ℃ are high-temperature insulation.

③ According to the shape of the product, one is a shaped lightweight refractory brick, including clay insulation brick, high alumina insulated refractory brick, silicon refractory brick, and some pure oxide light refractory brick, and the other is unshaped. Lightweight refractory bricks, such as lightweight refractory concrete. The heat storage loss of industrial kiln masonry and the heat dissipation loss on the surface of the protective body generally account for about 24-45% of the fuel consumption. The use of lightweight refractory bricks with low thermal conductivity and small heat capacity as the protective structural material can save fuel consumption. The kiln can be heated and cooled by express delivery, which can improve the production efficiency of the equipment; it can also reduce the weight of the furnace body, interstitial kiln structure, improve the quality of light-weight Insulating bricks, reduce the environmental temperature, and improve working conditions. In industrial kilns, light refractory bricks are generally not used in furnace parts where the charge contacts, slag and hot air flow with high flow velocity and parts with high mechanical vibration. Light refractory bricks are mostly used as heat insulation and Lining or insulation.

2. There are four kinds of manufacturing methods of lightweight refractory bricks:

① Burn out the additive method

It is also called the method of adding combustible materials. Combustible materials such as charcoal and sawdust are added to the mud of refractory bricks to make the refractory bricks have certain pores after firing.

② Foam method

A foaming agent, such as rosin soap, is added to the mud for making refractory bricks, and bubbles are formed mechanically. After firing, porous refractory brick products are obtained.

③ Chemical method

A chemical reaction capable of properly generating gas is used to obtain a porous refractory brick product during the process of making refractory bricks, usually dolomite or periclase plus gypsum, and sulfuric acid as a foaming agent.

④ Porous material method

Light refractory bricks are made from porous materials such as natural diatomite or artificial dry earth foam clinker, alumina or oxygen zirconium hollow spheres.

During the refractory materials suppliers, Qingdao Western Coast Advanced Materials is a leading manufacturer of wide range of mullite insulating bricks worldwide. WAM insulating products are widely applied in middle and high-temperature furnaces in the field of Metallurgy, Aluminum, Petrochemical, Ceramics, Power and Glass industry, etc.
